| The Fourth Sumikin Bussan Group "Health and Safety Convention" |
| |
Sumikin Bussan Corporation's Steel Company and Machinery & Metals Company hosted the Fourth Sumikin Bussan Group "Health and Safety Convention" in Osaka on March 13, 2009, with the aim of boosting health and safety awareness across Group companies.
The event was attended by 60 participants, including Sumikin Bussan Deputy President and Executive Officer Katsuhiko Yagi, representatives of the 19 Group companies of the Steel Company and Machinery & Metals Company, and health and safety officers. After tours of Sumikin Bussan Special Steel Co., Ltd., and the Kizugawa warehouse of Igeta Sunrise Pipe Corp., the Health and Safety Convention was held at the Tekko Kaikan building in Osaka.
"We will make a positive contribution to society, while keeping integrity and safety as top priorities." This is one of the pillars of the Sumikin Bussan Group Corporate Philosophy. Furthermore, as the Company reinforces its "processing and manufacturing functions," health and safety management become an increasingly pressing priority at our production and processing sites.
Sumikin Bussan instigated its aggressive groupwide health and safety activities four years ago. Since then, each company of the Group has raised its health and safety levels year by year. We have issued reports on the results of measures for fiscal 2008 and announced plans for health and safety management during fiscal 2009. As such, we are cultivating a system that can reliably execute a plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycle.
Safety Awards for fiscal 2008 consisted of Prizes for Effort for Sumikin Bussan Special Steel and Sanei Kohan Co., Ltd., and an Individual Prize for Koji Kishi of Harada Industry Co., Ltd. (Okayama Harada Pipe & Tube Co., Ltd.). In addition, Koji Nakajin of Izumi Kohan Co., Ltd., was selected for a Health and Safety Slogan Outstanding Performance Award through a vote by all participants. "Stay sharp! Familiar tasks hide pitfalls!!" warns his prizewinning entry. |
