Regarding Foodstuff Handling Reassurance and Safety
Establishment of the Food Quality Assurance Department

In April 2008, the Foodstuffs Company established a Food Quality Assurance Department in order to strengthen the safe management of foodstuffs handled by the company.
The Food Assurance Department, which is directly controlled by the president of the Foodstuffs Company, collects and consolidates information across the entire Group.

Food Quality Assurance Department Mission

To ensure food safety through our own responsibility as foodstuff professionals.

Concentration and Inspection of Processing Plants

Conducting inspections in advance, the Food Quality Assurance Department plans to work only with processing plants that meet certain standards in an effort to concentrate facilities. Facilities that we continue to do business with will be regularly inspected in an attempt to strengthen supervision and management.

Ensuring Safety from Raw Materials to the Finished Product

Sumikin Bussan is setting up a system for the independent inspection of imported processed foods both in Japan as well as at the origin. In order to expand our independent inspection system from raw materials (both primary and secondary ingredients) to the finished product, we have arranged a system that will conduct inspections, particularly in China, before shipping through a capital tie-up with a Japanese foodstuffs analysis company.

HACCP Lot Management (Hazard Analysis) and Trace Back (Traceability)

Regarding production at consigned processing plants, particular emphasis is placed on the management of areas of high risk and hazardous occurrence. This includes the recording and record-keeping of each production lot for traceability to ensure thorough management using Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) methods.

Unified Management of Foodstuff Quality Labeling

The foodstuff labeling system is managed by the Food Quality Assurance Department in accordance with the JAS Law, the Food Sanitation Law and the Food Sanitation Act and in observance of the labeling standards for the naming, list of ingredients, additives, place (country) of origin, expiration date, allergy warnings and existence/absence of recombinant DNA.

Quick and Accurate Response to Hazardous Occurrences

A Quality Safety and Labeling Committee was established to cooperate and communicate with national and municipal organizations, strengthening our crisis management structure and enabling a quick and accurate response to contain the hazard, identify its cause and prevent its recurrence.
